My charcoal has broken, particles are floating, can I use it?

The coal  vegetal  due to its high porosity is weakened and can break by releasing a few particles. This phenomenon is quite normal for a natural product. Although broken, it will be all the more effective because its contact surface with water will become more extensive. The charcoal particles will help digestion (just like powdered activated charcoal)!

How long can I leave the charcoal in the water?

My coal floats!

You can completely leave it immersed in your container for 1 month and add water as needed (remember to leave the stick to act between 4h and 8h each time you fill with water). After 1 month of continuous use, boil again for 10 min. then dry before placing it back in your carafe.

Vegetable charcoal is extremely porous because it is emptied of any substance accumulated during its wood life. The activation phase thus makes it very light and it floats the first days of use to finally fall to the bottom of the container when its pores are saturated with water.

What are the toxic substances adsorbed by charcoal? Studies ?

Why boil charcoal?

Vegetable charcoal has the greatest adsorption capacity of all known natural or synthetic materials. It has the power to attract and retain toxic particles present in the air and in the water. It is therefore important (before use and every 1-2 months) to sterilize it by boiling it in order to free its pores from toxic substances.
